If you’re thinking about booking a family photoshoot but wondering how much it’s going to cost—you’re not alone. This is one of the most common questions I get, and the truth is: it depends.
But don’t worry, I’ll break it all down for you so you know what to expect and what you’re paying for.
🏷️ What’s the Average Cost?
In the UK, a typical family photoshoot can range from £100 to £500, depending on a few key factors:
- The photographer’s experience and style
- What’s included (prints, digital files, location, etc.)
- Session length
- Travel and editing time

🫶 I’ve been photographing for 6 years full time and longer than that as a freelancer. My photo sessions start from £395 and include prints and digital files. You can view my packaging and pricing here.
🎓 1. Photographer’s Experience & Style
Just like any profession, experience matters. A newer photographer might charge closer to £100–£200, while a more established professional with a solid portfolio and high demand might be in the £300–£500 range.
You’re not just paying for someone with a camera—you’re paying for their artistic eye, people skills (especially important with kids!), and the ability to deliver consistent, beautiful results.

🫶 I pride myself in connecting with my families and clients. Making sure their comfortable first and foremost and working with them to create images that I know they will love.
🕐 2. Session Length
Most family photoshoots last around 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. Shorter mini sessions (usually 20–30 minutes) are often more affordable and great for quick seasonal updates or little ones with short attention spans.
Mini sessions might be £75–£150, while full sessions can go from £200 upwards, especially if multiple locations or outfit changes are involved.
🫶 I’m a bit different in that I don’t time my sessions. I wait for the perfect moments to reveal themselves and don’t rush or pressure my clients with timed session. Typically, my shoots last anywhere between 45-mins and 3 hours.
🖼️ 3. What’s Included?
Always check what’s actually included in the price:
- Digital images? Are they high-res and how many do you get?
- Prints or albums? Are they part of the package or an extra?
- Editing? Professional retouching can take hours, and it’s a big part of what you’re paying for.

🫶 I include all three of these to my my sessions. 10 high resolution images with matching 7×5″ matte prints with every session. All photos in your online gallery are edited to a high standard.
🚗 4. Location & Travel
Studio shoots are usually more controlled and may include backdrops or props. Outdoor sessions, on the other hand, offer natural light and seasonal vibes—but may include a small travel fee if the location is outside the photographer’s usual area.

🫶 I’m completely flexible and adaptable – I can come to you, we can meet at a studio or I’ll meet you in your favourite outdoor spot.
💰 So… What Should You Expect to Pay?
Here’s a rough guideline for UK family photography pricing:
Type of Session | Price Range |
---|---|
Mini Session (20–30 mins) | £75 – £150 |
Standard Session (1 hr) | £150 – £300 |
Premium or Extended Session | £300 – £500+ |
Remember: photography is an investment in memories. The value doesn’t come just from the time spent on the day—it comes from having those moments captured forever.
❤️ Final Thoughts
When choosing a photographer, think beyond just the price tag. Consider:
- Do you like their style and editing?
- Are they good with children or large groups?
- Do they offer clear pricing and deliverables?
Ultimately, the right photographer will make you feel comfortable and confident—and give you images you’ll truly treasure for years.
